The holidays are often a time when we take some extra time to reflect on the importance of giving. Acts of service are a great way to make a difference in someone’s life. Here at ACA, we take pride in our various community outreach initiatives. Our six office locations work directly with senior living communities in and around Atlanta and regularly schedule visits. During these visits, we provide a wide variety of hearing health care services to residents. These services include, but are not limited to, looking in the ears to check for ear health and the presence of wax, hearing screenings, hearing consultations, and hearing aid cleanings. We provide these services onsite to help improve the convenience and accessibility to hearing healthcare.
My experiences with community outreach initiatives have become something that I enjoy and always look forward to. While it is quite nice to change up my routine by working outside the office, my favorite aspect of these visits is knowing that I will see and catch up with a number of my “regular” residents. These outreach appointments have helped me develop ongoing relationships of trust and confidence with many of the folks who attend.
At a recent community outreach appointment, I had the pleasure of meeting and forming an immediate connection with a woman who had just moved to the area. She was a hearing aid user, but had rarely used her devices because she did not believe they provided her with much benefit. As such, she became discouraged, and reluctant to spend time in the dining hall and attend community events because she knew she had difficulty in these situations. After a brief conversation with her, I encouraged her to make an appointment with me and our staff of audiologists for some testing and adjustments. Several months later, every time I see her she is clearly leading the social pack and the increased joy in her face is immediately evident. If I had not met her at one of our outreach events, she likely would not have sought and received the help she needed.
If you live in a community, or know a community that would benefit from our services, please reach out to the staff at any one of our six locations and we would be happy to make arrangements!
